Environmental Genetics Lab

Description

Our working group, together with the working group “Molecular Ecology”, operates a modern molecular genetics laboratory at the building L on the main campus in Landau. The 210 m² laboratory is fully equipped for all standard molecular genetic work, e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, quantitative (real-time) PCR, DNA cloning and sequencing (two 8-capillary automatic sequencers).

Two 8-capillary automatic sequencers (CEQ 8000 and CEQ8800, Beckman Coulter) allow us to generate microsatellite, AFLP and sequence data in a fast, reliable and reproducible manner.

Realtime-PCR cycler — With our realtime-PCR cycler (Eppendorf) we can watch the PCR while doubling the DNA-fragments. This specialized PCR technique enables us not only to detect the crayfish plague agent, but also to determine the infection degree of the samples.

Five 96-well PCR cyclers (Eppendorf, Biometra) make a high through-put of samples possible.

Working under a DNA-free flue enables professional and clean analyses.
